Your Wedding Photos Should Go Smoothly

Your wedding is going to be one of the most magical days of your life. Not because of anything you plan or (while that does help!) it’s because you get married. There’s nothing like it!! While planning your wedding can be super exciting… it can feel super overwhelming. I want to offer you some support for how to plan for incredible wedding photos. Your wedding photos can and should go smoothly with a seasoned photographer but I have collected some tips over the years that I wanted to share to help you out.

Choosing your Venue

Regardless of where you choose your venue to be, we will make it look incredible. I have a guide I can send you, just be sure to ask. When you’re looking for a venue (btw… start looking sooner than you think), envision locations for moments you want on a shot list. Don’t worry, I will help you plan your shot list, of course, but if having a first look is important to you, think about where you might like that. Or, if there’s a great spot for your wedding party to get some posed photos, make a mental note for me and we can chat through the options! Personally, I would recommend choosing a venue with lots of natural lighting if that’s an option for you! The better lighting, the better the photos BUT AGAIN… we will make it look incredible, no matter what.

Curate a Vision Board

Before diving into the planning process, sit down with your partner and create a vision board for your photos. You can make a physical one use Pinterest or whatever! But, if you can see past things like colors and venue locations – try to look at posing, any unique shots that you might not have seen 1000x, or ideas you might want to try! When we finalize your must-have shot list, I want you to feel like you’ve done some planning so you’re not left wondering if you’ve missed anything. I promise to support you and give you great options, but this step really helps couples feel prepared for their photos.

Hire Reliable Vendors

I have worked with some really great local vendors, and we can chat more about my recommendations for that. But, if you’re unsure, please please please do your research, read reviews, and ask for recommendations from friends and family who you trust. A great way to help judge a vendors is if they go above and beyond for you. They should make you feel like you can trust them, and as a photographer – I’ve always got your back. They’re services are going to be a big part of the overall experience of the day, so that’s why I consider it a photo-tip because you don’t need to be stressing about catering between your ceremony and your reception. You need to be having the best day of your life between the ceremony and your reception.

The Details you don’t want to Overlook

I’m going to be honest, the little details aren’t what makes a wedding special. But, there are some details that really do enhance the overall experience. What matters most is that you don’t overlook the details that are important to you. When planning, really sit down with your partner and talk through what is important to you, and what isn’t. Think through the photo-ops of the details that are important to you both. If you’re going to spend all that time and money on a cake, and cutting the cake together during your reception, then plan for a cute backdrop to the cake table so your photos are cute! These are the types of details that as your wedding photographer, I want to help you think through.

I’m here to be your hype girl, obsess over all the details, be someone you can dance ridiculously with, laugh with you until your stomach hurts, and truly be yourself in front of. The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words. So, whether you are planning a luxury celebration or an intimate ceremony, I hope these tips have helped you navigate the planning process and create a day that reflects your unique style and love story.
